Care. Connection. Community.
AMVETS (American Veterans) is the nation's most inclusive Congressionally-chartered veterans service organization, representing the interests of 20 million veterans. AMVETS is open to and fighting for all who honorably served in the United States military, including the Reserve and Guard. With more than 250,000 members nationwide, we are veterans serving veterans.
As one of America's leading veterans service organizations for more than 75 years, AMVETS has a proud history of assisting veterans and sponsoring numerous programs that serve our country and its citizens.
Membership in AMVETS is open to anyone who honorably served, or currently serving, in the U.S. Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves.
We, the American Veterans who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces of the United States during and since World War II, fully realizing our responsibility to our community, to our state and to our nation, associate ourselves for the following purposes:
The helping hand that AMVETS extends takes many forms
One of the most visible is our network of trained national service officers (NSOs) accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs. These dedicated men and women provide sound advice and prompt action on compensation claims at no charge to the veteran. Available every Thursday at Post 70.
Each year AMVETS awards scholarships totaling $40,000 to deserving high school seniors, ROTC students and veterans pursuing higher education. Ask about application deadlines.
AMVETS offers career centers throughout the country, a dedicated team of career specialists and placement resources through our partners to help veterans transition to civilian careers.
AMVETS members and Ladies Auxiliary devote countless hours of free time to brighten the lives of hospitalized veterans. Something as simple as playing cards with the lonely can make a world of difference.
Over the years, AMVETS has been at the forefront of public policy related to national defense, services for homeless veterans, adequate funding for the VA, concurrent receipt of retirement pay and disability compensation by disabled military retirees, veterans employment and training, POW/MIA accountability and flag protection.
AMVETS members in more than 1,400 posts nationwide promote and support "quality of life" community-service programs ranging from Special Olympics and ROTC to scouting and organ-donor projects.
The AMVETS Post 70 Color Guard proudly represents our nation's veterans at community events, parades, memorial services, and ceremonial occasions throughout the Beaufort area.
Our Color Guard presents the colors with dignity and respect, honoring the flag and all those who have served. If you'd like the Color Guard at your event, please contact us.
